TaiChung mission trip devotion

Day 1

14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

Reflection: What is the driving force behind your daily actions?  Often, we operate out of a desire for comfort, the pressure to succeed, or the fear of what others think. Paul presents a radically different motivation in these verses: the love of Christ.  Paul writes that the love of Christ “compels” us.  The original word for “compel” paints a picture of being constrained.  It means to have only one direction to go — pushed forward by the transforming realization that Jesus loved you so much that He took your place on the cross.  When you truly grasp that Jesus died for you, it changes how you view yourself and your purpose.  It shifts the center of your life from you to Him.  This means your work, your relationships, and your free time are all opportunities to honor the One who gave everything for you.
  1. What most motivates you to join this mission trip?
  2. In what ways are you tempted to live mainly for yourself?
  3. How can gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice shape your daily attitude?

Pray: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your great love shown through the cross.  Forgive me for the times I live mainly for myself instead of for You.  Help me to remember that You died and rose again so I could have new life and purpose.  Let Your love control my heart, my choices, and my priorities.  Teach me to live each day for Your glory and not merely for my own desires.  In Jesus’name.  Amen.
